Net Book Computers

Netbooks are the latest category of laptop computer. They are ultra-portable computers, designed to a convenient size and weight that is easy to carry around all day. An important feature of netbooks is their ability to connect to the internet by a variety of wireless methods. Nearly all support the common forms of WiFi connection. Newer netbook models can also support the use of mobile broadband 3G networks.

Because of their size and light weight, netbook computers typically do not have very long battery life (a few hours at most). Their larger screen size (up to 9 inches), full keyboards and touchpads make them far more practical to use than smart phones like the Apple iPhone.

Because they are designed primarily for anytime, anywhere internet access, most netbook buyers do not need the full Microsoft Vista operating system. Netbooks typically come with much "lighter" (ie not so resource-hungry) software such as Linux Ubuntu or Windows XP (which is still available on machines from Dell and other major manufacturers). While providing everything most netbook users would need, these operating systems are both simpler to use and are less of a drain on battery life than Windows Vista.
